About 14 km away from the center of Can Tho city, Gian Gua (Malayan Banyan) historical relic is located in Nhon Khanh hamlet, Nhon Nghia commune, Phong Dien district. Gian Gua is over 100 years old and recognized by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment as a National Heritage Tree.
Malayan Banyan is a typical tree in the wetland area of the Mekong Delta region, associated with the history of reclaiming and fighting against foreign invasion of Phong Dien district. Gian Gua is also a representative natural ecological area in Can Tho City.
In addition to the pristine beauty, Gian Gua with winding branches, twisting together like giant pythons, has formed wide, shady tree canopies that bring a comfortable, peaceful, cool and fresh atmosphere. Gian Gua is approved as a city-level historic site by the Can Tho City People's Committee on April 5th, 2013.
